Rashtra Seva Dal (RSD) | राष्ट्र सेवा दल is a prominent social, cultural, and socialist organisation founded by social reformer Sane Guruji in 1936 during India’s independence movement under the guidance of Mahatma Gandhiji, and reorganized on 4th June 1941 in Pune by eminent socialist leaders S. M. Joshi (the first Dal Pramukh), N. G. Gore, and Shirubhau Limaye, with guidance from Dr. N. S. Hardikar.
During India’s freedom struggle, around 107 Rashtra Seva Dal volunteers laid down their lives. RSD cadres actively participated in the Quit India Movement (1942), the Goa Liberation Movement, and the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement. In 1948, the organisation consciously resolved to remain completely autonomous from political parties and never contest elections, directing all its energy towards constructive nation-building, social reform, and democratic defense.
“Political independence has no meaning without social equality, the elimination of caste discrimination, and universal human dignity.”
